At Indigo Ink, we’re a curious group of print enthusiasts who always love learning new things… and we had a hunch that our clients, collaborators, and creative cohorts were the same, too.
We’ve recently launched a webinar series focused on giving you bite-sized, practical, hands-on production knowledge from the comfort of your desk. Over the past nine months, hundreds of designers and artists have attended our ongoing series of live, one hour virtual presentations led by Indigo Ink specialists (they’re totally free, too). Each episode showcases unique production techniques, tips and tricks on file prep, and even an interactive Q&A session at the end with our technical experts. Ahead of each talk, we develop print examples that illustrate key points and mail them out to registered participants for reference during the discussion. For those that miss the initial presentation (or want to watch again at their own pace), we upload a full recording to our YouTube channel for ongoing access to all the valuable information we discuss.
IndigoEdge: Shimmer & Shine
First up in the IndigoEdge series is “Shimmer and Shine” where we talk about how to design for metallic ink and digital foil in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. In this episode, we go over a variety of topics including strict naming conventions, spot color designations, uncoated vs coated requirements, layer sequencing, and the crucial “overprint” setting.
IndigoEdge: White Ink
After the unbelievable success of the debut installment, we continued the series with an in depth look at digital white ink and its many nuanced applications. In IndigoEdge: White Ink, our team explains file naming conventions, opacity, and layering. We then delve deeper into how to achieve subtleties on lighter stocks and creating a base layer on darker stocks for vivid CMYK imagery that is unhindered by the tone of the sheet. We also feature special guest, Dailen Ogden, who walks us through the creative and strategic ways she uses white ink to enhance her illustrations and reproduce her digital artwork in stunning print.
IndigoEdge: Digital Die Cutting
The third episode of Indigo Edge explores Digital Die Cutting. Our team not only shows off some truly inspiring shapes, folds, and packaging, we also explain how to utilize scores and folds for 3 dimensional pieces, kiss cuts for stickers, and unique shapes for memorable invites and collateral. While this session focuses on Digital Die Cutting, we plan to cover Traditional Die Cutting, along with traditional foil stamping in a future episode.
We’re only at the beginning of the IndigoEdge series, and we’d love to see you at the next virtual discussion… just join our mailing list and you’ll be notified about the next installment. You’ll get a chance to request samples ahead of the topic and ask your own questions at the Q&A portion. And if you find that you simply can’t make the live presentation, check out our Youtube channel for full recordings of each episode.
We’re also taking requests on future topics… if there’s an Indigo Ink capability you’ve always wanted to explore, send us your idea for an IndigoEdge topic and we’ll consider it for a future episode.
